PLanet B

Media
C4D, After Effects

Description

This piece is an animation of the King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard song I like called "Planet B". The album it came from is a thrash metal album about environmentalism. I don't want this piece or the song to be misconstrued as being against space exploration. "Planet B" is against the recent development of some people believing that the only solution to the eventual climate and pollution disasters on Earth is to not face the problem and instead bail from the earth and colonize another planet. To achieve this, having people permanently live on Mars has become sought after by people such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. While getting people to land on Mars would be an incredible feat, actually having people settle there long term would be only possible for an incredibly rich sliver of the population and has numerous glaring reasons why it would be miserable for those doing it.

This project was made for a final in my first class learning 3D animation through Cinema 4D. I didn't import any models for it which made it extremely time consuming to create. Most of the glitch effects in the piece were made in After Effects, but many parts incorporate real glitch art. The light swirls seen a few times in the piece are footage of video feedback shot by my roommate, Ned Cooper. There are also some glitch details achieved through the re-recording of the piece playing on an old monitor screen and editing this in with the original piece.
